Surface-Contrast Marking

Surface Contrast Marking is the option of choice for applications where a high contrast is desired on a product surface where having any relief or surface texture is not permissable, such as is often the case with medical tools and implants.

This marking option also often will increase the level of contrast from “Dark” to “Black” so when achieving that extra level of contrast is important, this option may be best for you. As compared to the Surface Ablation Mark, this option takes longer to process resulting in a higher price point and comes with many more limitations related to the substrate material that it can be carried out on.

Surface Ablation Marking

By removing a slight surface skin of material, Surface Ablation works on more materials than other marking types, and is faster than most others. These benefits make it the most popular marking method we offer and ideal for the widest variety of applications.

Surface Ablation Marking is produced by texturizing or ablating the targeted surface- the change in the resulting surface finish defines the marking. The degree of contrast being largely dependent on several factors primarily related to the substrate material. Ablation Marking is most often generated by Laser Etching due to its efficiency characteristics.

Relief Engraving

Relief Engraving (Also commonly called “Deep Engraving”) is the permanent marking of choice for products used in harsh/corrosive environmental conditions and for parts produced in the Aerospace & Defense Industries. It is also an ideal marking choice for increasing the perceived value of your product as a result of visual appeal, touch and feel of the marking and also for the added permanence as result of the relief.

It is commonly used to achieve deeply engraved brands, embellishments and artwork into products of varying materials. A leading choice of all other marking options, it does come at a higher cost per unit directly resulting from the additional time required to produce the engraved image, in comparison with its counterparts.

Relief Engraving with Color-Fill

his marking option, extremely popular in the production of signage, plaques, nameplates and industrial panels, is a Relief Engraving carried out at a depth of cut sufficient to receive a paint fill as a post process.

Fully controlled by the clients design and decisions, the selected colors (standard and custom colors available) are applied by injecting the appropriate paint into the engraved details and wiping the parts surface to wipe away all excess tracings of paint. The color is left only inside the engraved relief areas which walls define the crisp edges of the colors.
